Dolls hospital - a Texas treatment

Dolls hospital - a Texas treatment

The wonderous thing about traditional dolls is that they can be repaired relatively easily!
As my type of doll making (called Steiner or Waldorf) is quite niche, it can be hard to find repairers willing to take on beloved dolls so this dolly travelled all the way from Texas, USA for her treatment.
As you can see from the photo the damage was extensive, but with a mixture of the original photos and using her current love faded colours, I carried out a sympathic restoration.
The original wool filling was carefully removed and then reused - the smells and shaping over the years are part of the magic of Waldorf dolls. Thankfully there wasn't any moth damage to prevent me doing this.
My customer had the lovely idea of keeping a patch of her original skin fabric, so I added this as a heart over her new body.
Her hair has been ripped and the crochet was unravelling, it would have been much easier to make a new one, but I really wanted to keep as much as her original, even down the to the tips of her hair with red paint on! The wig was repaired and new fibres in a blend of three blonde shades added.
Whilst she was over America changed their policy on custom charges so we had to navigate that but thankfully Royal Mail have sorted it out so you can prepay and she sailed though customs fine.
Hope you enjoyed reading - if you have this sort of doll who has seen a lot of playtimes and fun, and would like a quote, please get in touch.
